This minisite is the result of five weeks of hard work in and out of our English Major Course (Winfriedschule Fulda, May/June 2005). Following a general introduction to Northern Ireland, especially the history of the Troubles, we have done our best to present the knowledge and skills we have acquired through our reading of Bernard Mac Laverty’s brilliant novel CAL.
You will find much of the basic “stuff” you are likely to expect, e.g. summaries, characterizations and some hints at interpretation. Additionally, there are some fruitful attempts at creative writing, interactive quizzes, some of our thoughts on the movie version of CAL, movie stills, a selection of vocabularies which we think are the most useful ones, and a small collection of sketches. All in all, this site has turned out to be not quite as “mini” as it was supposed to be at the beginning of our project.
As we are German students of English, you are very likely to find some mistakes if you are a native. We are indeed grateful for any notes that may improve this site - therefore, please feel free to make ample use of the comment option at the end of each contribution.
